I went to the funddomiciles.com event yesterday. This was mainly about different lawyers and fund administrators championing their respective domiciles in light of the current factors affecting domicile choice.

The choice of domicile is really down to the perception that fund managers have of where their target investors would like funds domiciled. The more investors that like a domicile the better chance the manager has of raising assets if they domicile there. Asset gathering is key in these times when there is limited liquidity available.

As Apex provides fund administration in all the key fund domiciles globally we didn't need to skew an opinion towards where we are as some others need to. The conclusions are that investors probably prefer Luxembourg but it is slow to get approvals and can be expensive so Malta is gathering momentum, Ireland is losing a bit and Cayman remains a popular option.
