Apex opened its office in Ireland in July 2007 and since then, there has been a considerable shift in the need for greater transparency in the industry. Given this, global regulators have moved quickly to ensure that the regulations and legislation around the funds industry is robust enough to ensure strength of regulation. There has been a flight to more regulated domiciles and this is expected to continue in the years ahead.

 Given the focus on more regulated products, in particular the UCITS products, this will allow local investment manager within the EU to further differentiate themselves from investment managers in non-regulated jurisdictions. The scope of the UCITS product has widened considerably and allows greater freedom and flexibility to cater for more diverse fund strategies.

 At present the main issues facing investment managers is capital and the ability to raise and/or replenish capital that was lost over the last two years. It is slowly returning to the market place but there is a large gap that needs to be filled. The second issue relates to a change of tastes. A lot of hedge strategies during the boom have become unpopular and there has been a shift to more conservative strategies. Investment Managers are having to adapt rapidly.

Apex advises its clients not to get caught blindsided with expectation gaps between providers on reports not supplied or delays on reporting. There is a heightened sense of urgency amongst investors on the depth of information required and how quickly that information should be provided. Apex removes these additional reporting requirements, it does not add to the load.
